Borders Broadband – Improving Internet Services for Rural Gloucestershire
GFirst is working alongside Gloucestershire County Council and Herefordshire Council as part of Borders Broadband project, to deliver high-speed broadband to rural areas in Gloucestershire and Herefordshire.
The Borders Broadband project is using Government and local authority funding to attract commercial telecoms suppliers to provide the infrastructure for high-speed internet services.
As the Local Enterprise Partnership, we are clear about our focus to support growth and the creation of private sector jobs in Gloucestershire. The LEP has four core priorities:
1. Investment: growing and developing businesses; encouraging innovation
2. Skills: connecting education and skills with the needs of business and local economy
3. Promotion: of Gloucestershire as a great place to invest, work, learn, live and visit
4. Connection: developing the right planning environment and infrastructure; encouraging
investment and sustainable growth
The LEP’s public/private joint working approach will provide Gloucestershire with the competitive edge in the investment market, continuing the success in attracting inward investment.
It will create the right infrastructure, stimulating the market to attract private sector funding for high-speed broadband roll-out. This will enable our existing businesses and potential investors to compete on a global stage.
Keep Informed
In October 2011 we launched a survey to investigate demand for high-speed broadband in Gloucestershire. The household survey has had a good response and is now closed - thank you to all who took part. The data is helping the Borders Broadband project team in talks with potential broadband infrastructure suppliers.
